Analysis of 2 music videos

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZM6L6SUSBc Hard to say no-The Strypes. This music video has a lot of different features. It is a narrative and a performance music video. This is because the video shows the band going to different venues and setting up for it. It also shows them doing the live performances. The video is very jumpy using a lot of cuts, this is to go with the song. The song is very upbeat so it makes sense that the video is very jumpy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s88r_q7oufE No one knows-Queens of the stone age. This music video is again a narrative and a performance music video. This is because within the video it shows the band in a car and you can also see the band performing the song with an effect. The music video has nothing to do with the song as the video has a moose in. The band in the car hit the moose and then it we see it again in the performance part of the video. So this has nothing to do with the actual song. But the video has a lot of good features within it.

Our Prelim Task

Today in class we had to do a prelim task.  Our task was to get into our groups and record ourselves lip syncing the song 'thats what I go to school for' Busted.  The recordings we got of everyone in the group lip syncing the song were successful.  We then had to go back to class and use a programme on the IMacs and snyc the song to our moving mouths so it looked as realistic and accurate as possible.  The software we used was very easy to use so we did the task fairly quick on the computers.  This prelim task was very good for me and our group because it gave us a general idea on what we will be doing in our real music video.  It made us work well as a group and we got to know the software we will be using.  So I think the prelim task was a very good thing for our group because we enjoyed it and it will prepare us for our actual project.

Andrew Goodwins Theory (6 principles)

Andrew Goodwins theory (6 principles)
1. Music Videos demonstrate genre characteristics (e.g. stage performance in metal video, dance routine for boy/girl band)
2. There is a relationship between lyrics and visuals (either illustrative, amplifying, contradicting)
3. The is a relationship between music and visuals (either illustrative, amplifying, contradicting
4. The demands of the record label will include the need for lots of close ups of the artist and artist may develop motifs which recur across their work (a visual style)
5. There is frequently reference to notion of looking (screens within screens, telescopes etc) and particularly voyeuristic treatment of the female body.
6. There is often intertexual

Different styles of music videos

There are two types of music videos, there is Narrative and Performance

Narrative-  A narrative music video is a video hat tells a story or a tale whether it has a fictional character or it involves the artist.  A good example of a Narrative music video is Ed Sheeran's 'A team'

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAWcs5H-qgQ Performance- A Performance music video is a video that involves the artist performs the song whether that would be a live video that has been taken or a set in a different scene.  A good example of this would be Foo Fighters 'The Pretender'

Busted-What I go to school for cuts

In class we watched Busted-What I go to school for and we came to a conclusion that after 1 minute and 13 seconds there was 38 different cuts.  These cuts had features of cinematography such as different types of camera angles.  The most common camera angle within the 1 minute 13 seconds is the mid shot. This is to show the features of the students in the classroom, features such as: Uniform.
